Ferdinand van Alphen and his magic pens

Creative director extraordinaire with the likes of Tommy's such as Hilfiger and Bahama under his belt, Ferdinand is also a brilliant illustrator with a knack for twisting words and waving wands!

Here at Mrs sizzle we delight in a group of Ferd animal inspired illustrations that make me smile every time I look at them!

Gizmo is seen in the last picture and when Kyoko took his picture he knew exactly where to be. As she says about animals, "I think I have a healthy relationship with animals in general. When I grew up in Japan, we had tadpoles, crayfish, koi fish, a pet hamster with one arm, pet squirrels (different than American squirrels), turtles, cats and a dog. My view of animals changed slightly though when I saw wild lions in South Africa up close. I knew instinctively this big orange cat can take me down with one swipe. It gave me much more respect for the wilderness."

"Even while I was enjoying a 20-odd year stint as a travel writer, features journalist and magazine editor, I was always looking around for a valid reason to hang out with dogs all day. In 2012, I started indulging my hankering to paint, and I found that as I progressed, my subject matter became more and more canine – in a wry, not-too-serious way. I was hooked on the many expressions of every pooch I came across. Dog lovers responded by smiling, and Hangdog was born. It’s now an online shop selling fine art prints, stationery and textiles with an ironic, light hearted, doggish bent."  - Megan Anderson
