"sweet, slobbery and undeniably silly" is what we hear of Ty Foster's book LICK
Ok, how could you not love this? I mean a booked called LICK! Ty Foster caught my attention with this peanut butter loving dog book. We asked him a few questions about the book and the inspiration behind it and this is what we got!
WHY DID YOU DO THE BOOK?
As for why I did the book, honestly, because it seemed like a really fun thing to do! Simple as that I suppose. Once I had the idea, which was purely accidental, I really wanted to see all the different expressions that would result from different breeds and different ages. The majority of the dogs I photographed came from casting calls, they're just everyday dogs doing what they do best when given peanut butter.
DO YOU HAVE YOUR OWN DOG?
My wife and I have a dog named Magic, though more often than not we call him Bear. He's a pit-boxer mix with a little french bulldog in there, we think. He pops up on my instagram feed from time to time.
WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR DOG?
We rescued him from a local rescue, Bully Breed Rescue. They're a smaller rescue, but absolutely wonderful and they care so much about the dogs they have in their care.
HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN A PHOTOGRAPHER?
I am not sure I've always consider myself a photographer - I used my parents 35mm Nikon growing up but never thought much of it. It really wasn't until 2006 that I started photographing seriously and even then it wasn't animal centric, that focus began a few years later. Now, I am focused primarily on animals.
WHAT'S YOUR NEXT PROJECT?
I have a few ideas I am working on but all of them are more serious, than Lick. I really want to begin focusing on animal welfare, especially on lesser known breeds and species. One of the projects that I'd love to begin is on the Pangolin which is a small mammal that lives in Asia and Africa and is currently a critically endangered species.
