Alexis Rockman and a dog named Padme photographed by Kimberly M. Wang
If we're going to be honest, when we walked into the studio of the artist Alexis Rockman, the primary purpose was to meet his dog. Instead, what we found were magical drawings on the wall - the results of a 20 years study about indigenous species and his collaboration with scientists along his travels. The most fascinating part about the drawings is that they are made from organic materials that Alexis found locally in the locale of each particular animal he paints. His show, Natural History of Life in New York City, opens at Salon 94 in April. That's all I will reveal about the art now as we are here to learn about Padme, Alexis Rockman's dog.

paws up for corrie wessman's animals
It is with great furry pleasure that I introduce you to this wonderful pencil portrait artist based in Chicago, Corrie Wessman. As she puts it, "My work is minimal and intentionally thoughtful with an underlying tongue in cheek theme." Her fashion animal work is very much up Mrs. Sizzle's alley so we had to dig a bit further to learn more about these wonderful pictures!
MRS. SIZZLE LOOKS AT THE ARTIST RORY GEVIS AND HER MANY DOGS
"Dogs have been part of my creative DNA for as long as I can remember. I would draw them endlessly as a child as I wanted one so much. So much so that I would make believe they were mine for real. Finally for my 10th birthday my parents gave in and gave me my first dog. Their personalities and souls are so fascinating to me...and their eyes....tell a million stories."
LUIS VENEGAS HAS A DOG NAMED PERRI THAT HE WANTED TO SHARE WITH MRS. SIZZLE
Luis Venegas is my idol! When I was starting my site, both Donald Robertson and Inez asked me, "Do you know Luis?". Well now I do and I am in awe. Like-minded and chic, here is a bit about the man and his dog Perri, and the new magazine, "The Printed Dog".
MRS. SIZZLE LOVES A CHIC DOG PORTRAIT IN PLATINUM BY CAMERAWORK STUDIO
Tricia Rosenkilde from Camerawork Studio reached out to me to present her gorgeous platinum portraits of animals. Her own dog, Katie, came from a kill shelter in Georgia; she was originally found in the woods with her three sisters, living in an old wood pile with no food. The puppies all found wonderful homes when they were brought up to New Jersey by Eleventh Hour Rescue.
MRS. SIZZLE FOUND SALLY MUIR ON FACEBOOK DOING THE DAILY DOG
I so adore Sally's work and this is what she had to say about it! "I got into painting dogs accidentally. I used to paint my children over and over and then the dogs crept in. Then the dogs took over and people started commissioning more dogs than people! I do still paint people as well and sometimes, people and dogs together."
HEIDI LENDER AND HER FABULOUS DOG, BUBBA, GO PLACES TOGETHER
"Bubba, Bichon-Shih Tzu, age 7-1/2, Taurus (like me), constant companion, photo muse, self-portrait partner. A gypsy by nature (or maybe that's me), road-trip navigator and shotgun-rider on three cross-country trips, favors motel hallways and elevators, lives part-time in Uruguay, afraid of horses and cats, loves chorizo. He's featured in three of my photo series (so far) and can often be found modeling on my instagram feed."
AMY TURNER LOVES DOLLY PARTON
My girlfriend, Sammy, and I were not sure if we were ready for a new dog after the death of our beloved dog, Edith Piaf. We went to an adoption fair from a wonderful rescue group in LA called Dogs Without Borders. We were very sad, and not sure if we were ready to bring another animal into our world… until we saw her.
DANI IS A VET AND @HEALTHYASAHORSEVET AND IS HERE TO GIVE US SOME TIPS
I met this amazing gal on none other than Instagram. She takes a mean pic and I couldn't help but be curious about what @healthyasahorsevet stood for! Well, you got it, she's a VET! and I was lucky enough to get some great photography and some excellent animal vet tips!
ALWAYS JUDGING AND YARK TAKE A SUMMER STROLL AND FIND A DOG
I was doing my usual troll on Instagram when I came across this great video that was a collaboration between ALWAYS JUDGING, YARK dog, and a fab song by Katie Herzig. Yark does a chic leash, a canine couch and cute collar. Always Judging blows me away with her fashion sense and music intuition. Not to mention this girl is a dog lover!
