If we're going to be honest, when we walked into the studio of the artist Alexis Rockman, the primary purpose was to meet his dog. Instead, what we found were magical drawings on the wall - the results of a 20 years study about indigenous species and his collaboration with scientists along his travels. The most fascinating part about the drawings is that they are made from organic materials that Alexis found locally in the locale of each particular animal he paints. His show, Natural History of Life in New York City, opens at Salon 94 in April. That's all I will reveal about the art now as we are here to learn about Padme, Alexis Rockman's dog.

It’s been a while since Mrs. Sizzle has visited a shelter and I was lucky enough to have some national outreach from AUSTIN, TX. Nicole Mlakar, a fantastic Austin photographer, and Anne Christian, of the brilliant dog collar & leash co, DOG + BONE , came together to do a series of portraits at the local shelter, AUSTIN PETS ALIVE.

Leslie Simitch told me about this fabulous book that she had seen at Colette's in Paris, "Doggies". Sipke Visser describes his relationship to dogs, "I don’t have a personal preference for dogs and I really like all animals. What makes dogs specifically interesting, perhaps, is that they can seem very human-like. In some of the pictures, it almost seems like they and myself completely understand each other. People get very interesting when they’re around dogs, probably because they feel they can sometimes communicate on the same level."

Armed with her camera, Maude Schuyler Clay photographed those who have had all access to the stories and mysteries of the Mississippi Delta. In her book Delta Dogs, Clay photographs dogs as they roam the mysterious yet majestic lands of the Delta and their interaction with the people who call the Delta home.

Richard Phibbs is at it again! He and the Humane Society of New York, under the brilliant direction of Sandra DeFeo, worked tirelessly with a team of people to get these beauties photographed so they might have a better chance of being adopted. AMY TURNER LOVES DOLLY PARTON
My girlfriend, Sammy, and I were not sure if we were ready for a new dog after the death of our beloved dog, Edith Piaf. We went to an adoption fair from a wonderful rescue group in LA called Dogs Without Borders. We were very sad, and not sure if we were ready to bring another animal into our world… until we saw her.

I first saw these photos on Feature Shoot and flipped! I reached out to Amy and here is her story about these magnificent photos.
"Before I went to my first dog event I was very deep into a terrible photographic rut. I had hit a breaking point, and I asked myself “What do YOU love? What are YOU interested in?” I looked around my room and saw my Pomeranian Sasha looking at me. Something clicked in my head and I became curious about dog culture in New York City. The Doggies and Tiaras Pageant, founded by pet fashion designer Roberto Negrin, was the first thing I found when doing my research. The moment I stepped into the New Yorker Hotel it was like I got my groove back.

SEBASTIAN KIM HAS A DOG NAMED MORENO WHO LIKES TO GO ON SHOOTS WITH HIM
This is Uggie. And this is Moreno with Sebastian on a shoot. Sebastian took Uggie's portrait during his performance in THE ARTIST. Sebastian says of Mrs. Sizzle's site, " Moreno will be so psyched to be on there. All I can say is that when Moreno comes to studio shoots, he gets more attention than the models.
