paws up for corrie wessman's animals

It is with great furry pleasure that I introduce you to this wonderful pencil portrait artist based in Chicago, Corrie Wessman.  As she puts it, "My work is minimal and intentionally thoughtful with an underlying tongue in cheek theme."  Her fashion animal work is very much up Mrs. Sizzle's alley so we had to dig a bit further to learn more about these wonderful pictures!

Steve, the rescue dog

This is a bit of a crazy story.  My parents drove off the ferry in Orient Point, NY and in the parking lot was someone who looked suspiciously similar to me.  My mother ran over to her and she did not find me but my true doppelgänger. Sure enough after looking each other up in Facebook and deciding that yes, we did in fact look like twins, we agreed to meet a year and a half or so later.  Fast forward to us both instantly talking dogs and her tale of her rescue dog Steve.  I gave her the assignment to write his story and I am pleased to shared it with you!

Tell me if you think that owners start looking like their dogs? Human + Hound is here to inform that question

These pictures make me so happy! What’s not to love about humans and hounds, the brainchild of Melinda Montney of DOG & CO. and her partner and photographer, Robert Stoetzel.  Captured on the street, these images speak to the amazing relationship between people and their pets. I don’t know about you, but each one of these images makes me smile! So very #MrsSizzle!

Have you ever seen so many rescued animals in one house? Nancy Levine and I hadn't so we had to check it out

I have always had an eye on the Instagram account @Wolfgang2242 so when Nancy LeVine  reached out to say she had just visited Steve Greig, the owner of that account, to do a shoot for her upcoming book SENIOR DOGS ACROSS AMERICA, I jumped up and down.

Eric Ogden visited the country and was besotted by Jazz

Eric Ogden, a wonderful photographer friend of mine, shot this sweet little film while visiting with his girlfriend and her family in Menomonie, Wisconsin last October.  Their dog, Jasmine (or "Jazz" as she's called most of the time) was the perfectvsubject. Super playful and surprisingly cuddly for big dog, she loves her rural Wisconsin walks, and now and then chasing the elusive deer into the woods.

THE MYSTERIOUS FOUR LEGGED GUEST WHO STOLE MRS SIZZLE'S HEART

"Pets are the unrivaled masters of giving back. The pleasure they take in giving themselves to us is perhaps their greatest lesson.  Like our animals, we are wired to connect, to reach out, to love.  But unlike them, with us other things get in the way - jealousy, insecurity, irritation, anger.  Pets help us constantly come back to what makes us human.  They're a furry version of our best selves." (Arianna Huffington, THRIVE)

KLEE VAN SCHOONHOVEN HAS AN 8LB CHIHUAHUA WHO LIKES TO POSE

I met this remarkable photographer at the National Arts club earlier this summer.  I was undone by her instagram feed and inquired about her work.  Here is a new series Klee is doing with all her own images after years of borrowing from fashion magazines.  Her 8lb pooch is her muse and here is one of her latest projects.

My cousin, Crazy Sexy Kris Carr a goddess but her dog Buddy is my true hero

One of my biggest mentors, both with cancer advice and with rescue admiration, is my cousin Kris. She is a cancer thriver, and wellness warrior, not to mention, compassionate and informative also. I couldn't help reach out to her to have her share her compelling story about Buddy, who she found in the woods with her husband Brian Fassett. I have to say the journey was one of my favorite Intsagram feeds ever!

Peruvian Connection is warming up these beautiful dogs from Humane Society of NY

I had not yet been to the Humane Society of New York until today and it is with great joy that I can report I finally met my friend Sandra DeFeo who Richard Phibbs had introduced me to! Today I was there with the great Tara Sgroi to photograph some gorgeous dogs who are in need of furever homes.  The most fun thing is they are wearing Peruvian Connection sweaters that CEO and Founder, Annie Hurlbut, dreamed up that use the remnants of the alpaca garments that are knit for Peruvian Connection.Tomorrow these sweaters will be for sale with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the Humane Society of New York

KYOKO HAMADA HAS THE BEST WAY OF LOOKING AT ANIMALS

Gizmo is seen in the last picture and when Kyoko took his picture he knew exactly where to be. As she says about animals, "I think I have a healthy relationship with animals in general. When I grew up in Japan, we had tadpoles, crayfish, koi fish, a pet hamster with one arm, pet squirrels (different than American squirrels), turtles, cats and a dog. My view of animals changed slightly though when I saw wild lions in South Africa up close. I knew instinctively this big orange cat can take me down with one swipe. It gave me much more respect for the wilderness."
