Mrs. Sizzle, your 411 for all things doggie chic, hit the streets with lensman Ben Ritter to snap some of NYC’s beloved fashion stylists and famous instadogs sporting today’s hottest leashes. Move over NYFW, the dogs have come to town.
I have known this beauty since she was a wee one running up and down the beach in Tulum playing with her sister Kesewa and my daughter Sophie - spirited and carefree. Life has certainly thrown this girl a few curveballs but it is with grace and determination that she emerged from a spell and has come through like a shiny golden star. Founder of GURLS Talk, feminist crusader, actress, model and friend to many, Adwoa Aboah shares with us a few tidbits about her life and her dog, of course. There is nothing I love more than friends reaching out to me with their rescue stories. Not only does it give me great joy, but it is the most aspirational way to reconnect with old friends and colleagues and share about our commonality - LOVE FOR ANIMALS. SO, it was with great pleasure that I heard from friend and photographer Melanie Acevedo who wanted to share her pics and story about her dogs and their role in the home.
If we're going to be honest, when we walked into the studio of the artist Alexis Rockman, the primary purpose was to meet his dog. Instead, what we found were magical drawings on the wall - the results of a 20 years study about indigenous species and his collaboration with scientists along his travels. The most fascinating part about the drawings is that they are made from organic materials that Alexis found locally in the locale of each particular animal he paints. His show, Natural History of Life in New York City, opens at Salon 94 in April. That's all I will reveal about the art now as we are here to learn about Padme, Alexis Rockman's dog.
I discovered these brilliant images of the Westminster Dog show when reading Judith Newman's insightful piece in the New York Times this weekend. Not only was the article fascinating but the images were arresting. I had to find out about this Jonno guy! Apparently, he has been at his craft for some time and was honored last year in PDN's prestigious 30 under 30 award - one of Mrs. Sizzle's favorites. Leave it to team Sizzle to ask this guy all kinds of questions about his experience at the show!
Patricia Field - Fashion icon, lover of life, stylist to the infamous television show Sex in the City and the owner of the extraordinary PATRICIA FIELD boutique which will be closing its doors in a few months. When I learned the store was to be sold, I was insistent that Amy Lombard join me to go shoot the two house dogs and get some insight into their lives with the magnanimous Patrica Field. Surprisingly for being Pat's kids, they are so NOT fashion hounds so let's hear why!
Seventy years before there was Grumpy Cat, there was Walter Chandoha. Chandoha's gorgeous, candy-colored photos of adorable cats literally defined the genre of cat photography for more than seven decades, and his new book, Walter Chandoha, The Cat Photographer, published by Aperture features his 50 best images.
How divine are these please!? Imagine artist Denise Fiedler in San Francisco collaging her life away! As she calls it the collages are her reuse project- "I use vintage and discarded books for the collage paper." First she paints the subjects and then her scissors go wild. Of course what caught my eye were the dogs as my best friend Peg Patterson gave me some from her store DISH in Hudson, but the people are pretty exciting too.

A super fun shoot was had by all with Amy Lombard behind the camera and a wild crew on the other side! Present were Mrs. Sizzle, naturally, Mindy Montney of DOG & CO. as stylist extraordinaire and of course the mother of the furry celebrities, Katie Sturino. I had to ask the dogs a few questions this holiday season.
"It started with my fascination for large breeds a few years back, especially the Irish Wolfhound. I had some idea of an exhibition at the time but it did not come to pass. So I started @dogsbestman on instagram, and it proved to be quite popular, only problem was that I had run out of dog pictures after a few weeks.
There's a conversation happening at Purina and it's an inspired one at that. Many influencers all flocked to Greenpoint, Brooklyn to "bring together the brightest minds in pet science and culture to show how big, innovative ides are improving the emotional wellness of pets and the people who love them."
Ok, how could you not love this? I mean a booked called LICK! Ty Foster caught my attention with this peanut butter loving dog book. We asked him a few questions about the book and the inspiration behind it and this is what we got!

My dear friend David Carriere, long time book publicist and author, was intuitive enough to introduce me to a most dynamic creative pack, and one that I would quickly come to revere - and when I say revere, well, I really mean worship. W. Bruce Cameron is the author of a multitude of bestselling books, and the one that rocked me most recently was, A Dog's Purpose, which will come to life on the silver screen in the near future with Lasse Hallstrom directing!
